Ainslie is a self-taught jade and hard stone carver from the Tasman Region and predominantly works with Tasman sourced stone – nephrite jade, grossular garnet, diopside as well as Pounamu sourced from the West Coast of New Zealand.

“The Nelson-Tasman region boast some of New Zealand’s richest array of rocks minerals and I have always admired the vibrant colours, shapes, and beauty of river stones from our local awa, the Wairoa River in Brightwater.

I draw inspiration from the simple organic shapes of nature in my designs, but is also enjoy creating pieces which showcase geometrical forms, angles and facets which really highlight the material strength and quality of our local river stones.”
